Careers Fair Success!
The Annual Careers Fair at Wales High School on October 25th was a huge success. Numerous employer partners actively engaged with students.
This year, 60 exhibitors, including returning supporters and new partners, attended, thanks to the Careers and Enterprise Company’s (CEC) ‘Give an Hour’ campaign. The entire student body (1,800 students) participated, with each year group having designated slots to visit the fair.
To foster meaningful interactions, students used interaction cards, while those who engaged in insightful conversations received tokens for the school’s ‘house’ reward system. Additionally, Y12 peer mentors were on hand to guide younger students (Y7 and Y8), helping them confidently navigate the event.
Student Feedback
Y12 student: “The effort Miss Blackwell put into organizing this is huge. We’re really grateful for today, as it lets us get questions answered that we might not have otherwise.” Career Leader Feedback “
Miss Blackwell Careers Lead“The Give an Hour programme made it so easy to increase the provider number by adding a simple advert into the Careers hub! We were able to add more unique/ specialist providers like Yorkshire Wildlife Park that we would be unable to get on our own. I couldn’t ask for better Careers support as new to the role in July and I can’t wait for our careers provision to grow!”.
Another Y12 student: “Events like this inspire us to think about our futures. We wouldn’t normally go out of our way to research careers, but this makes us take the time.”
Business Feedback James Short, Transforming Learning Lead – Rotherham Place South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board said: “It’s always a pleasure to come to Wales. The students are well-prepared and engage meaningfully, reflecting the school’s dedication to making the event impactful”.
