Brief
Wales High School is undergoing a transformation to create a modern, sustainable educational estate. Designed with input from school representatives, the Department for Education (DfE), and community stakeholders, the redevelopment focuses on improving both the educational experience and the local environment. This means that the existing school will be replaced and refurbished with energy-efficient designs with high sustainability standards and will be net-zero in operation.

Indicative phasing for the project is as below
Phase 1 – Enabling Works / Temporary Accommodation
This phase will prepare the site for the construction of the new build, including removal of some trees and hedgerows, demolition of temporary classrooms, building a pedestrian bridge, creating contractor facilities, providing segregation, removal and re-positioning of the electricity sub-station and the installation of new temporary classrooms.
Phase 2 – New Build Works and Decant of Existing Buildings
Construction of the new school, provision of external hard surface sporting facilities and landscaping to the south of the site, then decant into new build.
Phase 3 – Demolition of Existing Buildings
Remaining buildings on site are demolished, new secure fence in place, creation of a new road / footpath for access to the new build from the existing entrance to ensure safe access during the demolition work
Phase 4 – Car Park Works
Construction of new car park alongside external landscaping works
Phase 5 – External Works / Reinstatement of Playing Fields
Re-location of contractor compound, re-landscape of this area. Re-landscape of existing car park, re-provide sports pitches to the north of the site, new trees planted for screening. Full handover of site.
Phase 1 of the enabling works is scheduled to take place during Summer 2025, decant into the new build will be Summer 2027 with completion of the whole project by the end of 2027.
