Wales High School Remembers Mr Dave Ward
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Mr Dave Ward, a much-loved and long-serving member of staff at Wales High School.
Over a remarkable four decades at the school, Dave worked in a variety of roles, including History Teacher, Head of History, Head of Year, Head of House (Busli), and Football Coach.
A brilliant historian with a deep knowledge of all periods – and a particular expertise in Napoleonic history – Dave inspired generations of students with his passion for the past and his gift for bringing history vividly to life in the classroom.

Beyond his teaching, Dave contributed enormously to school life. He coached numerous football teams, played as a goalkeeper in the staff football team, and supported the school’s outdoor pursuits programme, accompanying countless school camps throughout his career. A lover of sport in all its forms and a lifelong Sheffield Wednesday supporter, Dave brought enthusiasm, humour, and teamwork to everything he did.
Known for his sense of humour and fun, Dave was always approachable and endlessly supportive of his pupils. He had a natural empathy that made everyone feel valued and understood – qualities that made him not only a great teacher but also a wonderful colleague and friend.

A true legend of Wales High School, Dave will be remembered for his kindness, generosity of spirit, and the positive influence he had on so many lives.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his children, Sophie, Josh, Kelly, and Danielle, and with all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Much loved and deeply missed by the entire Wales High School community.
