Wales High School U15 Girls Reach ESFA National Cup Final
Wales High School’s U15 Girls’ Football Team created history with an incredible run to the ESFA National Cup Final at Stoke City FC’s stadium.
From the moment the day began, there was a real buzz around school as students, staff and families came together to support this outstanding group of players. The team enjoyed a special build-up to the occasion, including breakfast together, lunch in the park and receiving their new kit before making the journey to the stadium.
As the players arrived at Stoke City FC, they were greeted by the incredible noise and support of the Wales High School crowd. Walking out into a packed stadium filled with proud friends, families and staff is a moment the players will never forget.
The final against Surbiton High School started at a fantastic pace, with Wales immediately putting pressure on the opposition. Darcie led the line brilliantly, holding the ball up well and creating opportunities for the attacking players around her. Early chances fell to Evie, Jess and Seren, who all came close to opening the scoring.
Defensively, the team produced an outstanding performance throughout the game. The back four stood strong under pressure, making crucial tackles, blocks and interceptions to keep Wales firmly in the contest. Elisa impressed by driving forward from defence to support attacks, while goalkeeper Mischa made a series of exceptional saves, including a remarkable double save that drew applause from around the stadium.
The second half continued with the same intensity. Phoebe H made a crucial goal-line clearance to keep the game level before Surbiton eventually found the breakthrough following a well-worked move.
Despite falling behind, the Wales High School players continued to battle until the very final whistle. Backed by over 300 students creating an unforgettable atmosphere behind the goal, the team pushed forward in search of an equaliser and left absolutely everything on the pitch.
Although the game finished 1-0 to Surbiton High School, the achievement of reaching the National Final out of more than 370 schools is truly remarkable.
Every player represented Wales High School with professionalism, determination, resilience and pride throughout the competition. To have the opportunity to play in a professional stadium in front of such fantastic support is an experience and achievement that will stay with the players for many years to come.
