The school was offered the exciting opportunity to decorate a Lion Cub sculpture through the Pride of Yorkshire initiative, provided they could raise £950 for the charity. Thanks to the incredible efforts of students, staff and the wider school community, we surpassed the target well before the deadline.
Our fundraising activities have been creative and wide-ranging, including a Krispy Kreme Donut Sale, a Tesco Bake Sale, a homemade cookie sale, a “Cutest Kitty” competition (winner to be announced), and the upcoming Big House Raffle. In addition, generous online donations from the WHS community via JustGiving have significantly boosted the total, reflecting the strong community spirit that underpins the school’s values.
The Lion Cub arrived at school before half term and was welcomed with great enthusiasm. On VoW Day, students took part in a House Art Competition, designing creative templates to decorate the cub in their House style. The winning designs will now be brought to life by the school’s Art Department, transforming the sculpture into a vibrant and meaningful piece of art.
Once completed, the Lion Cub will join the Pride of Yorkshire Sculpture Trail (location to be announced), where it will be enjoyed by the public across South Yorkshire. After the event, the sculpture will return home to Wales High School, where it will stand proudly alongside the school’s JD Bear as a lasting symbol of our community’s generosity and commitment to supporting Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.
Lisa McCall, Headteacher, Wales High School said:
“We are incredibly proud of our students and the wider school community for their dedication and enthusiasm. Not only did we reach our fundraising target, but we did so ahead of schedule. This project reflects our CARE values and showcases the creativity, compassion and teamwork that make Wales High School such a special place.”
Our House Team continues to raise funds for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, and donations can still be made via the school’s JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/waleshighschool?newPage=true
