VE Day Celebrations

Today, the school community has come together to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day—a historic milestone marking the end of World War II in Europe.

Students were greeted with live music from the Harthill and WHS Choir

From 8 am, students were warmly welcomed through the Welcome Entrance with live music, themed decorations, and a vibrant street party-style atmosphere that set a festive tone for the day.

During morning registration, tutor groups watched a specially prepared VE Day video. The film reflects on the significance of the occasion and paid tribute to the men and women who served during the war, encouraging thoughtful discussions and remembrance.

At lunchtime, the dining hall will be serving traditional fish and chips. A wartime favourite, fish and chips were famously spared from rationing during World War II and became a symbol of national morale and comfort.

The school community will be fully embracing the spirit of the day, making the anniversary a meaningful and memorable experience for all involved.
