
These sport qualifications are offered as a one or two year course. OCR have designed refreshing and exciting content that’s up to date, engaging, fit for purpose and suitable for the needs of students. Universities, Employers and Industry Specialists have been consulted throughout the creation of this course to ensure the right combination of knowledge, understanding and skills required for the 21st Century. The course consists of units which are internally assessed and coursework based, as well as examined units which are externally assessed. The first year of the course can be studied as a Certificate “Single Award” (worth one A-Level) or an Extended Certificate “Double Award” (worth two A-Levels) at completion.
This course, when combined with other Level 3 qualifications, can lead students either into employment, be it through Apprenticeships or directly, or further study at University. It can lead into the following careers:
PE Teaching, Physiotherapy, Leisure Management, Event Management, Sports Analysis, Sports Coaching
The Examination Board for this course is OCR.
All Vocational Courses now have an examination assessment element – this MUST be passed to gain a grade overall.
5 GCSEs at 9 – 4 including English, Mathematics and Science. A Sport Qualification would be an advantage and a keen interest in Sport essential. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will be considered on an individual basis.
Single Award “Certificate” (equivalent to an AS Level)
• Unit 1: Body Systems and the Effects of Physical Exercise
• Unit 2: Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership
Double Award “Extended Certificate” (equivalent to an A-Level)…as above, plus
• Unit 3: Sports Organisation and Development
• Unit 8: Organisation of Sports Events
• Unit 18: Practical skills in Sport and Physical Activity
The Single Award Students will complete the additional three units above, to achieve the equivalent of a full A-Level. The Double Award students will complete a selection of other units (Performance Analysis, Sports Injuries, Fitness Testing) to take a qualification equivalent to two A-Levels, called the Technical Diploma.
