Pete Coxon
Pete Coxon
Pete Coxon, joined Wales High School in the 1970s as a Technology teacher before moving subject to teach Physics within the Science Department.
Known for his kind, friendly nature and described by many as a “salt of the earth” kind of man, Pete was born and raised in Kiveton Park. His life and career were deeply connected to the school, where he made meaningful contributions from the very beginning and even after his retirement.
Pete would always go above and beyond for both staff and students and was an integral part of school life, including the innovative ‘100 Club’ fundraiser campaign, which raised hundreds of pounds for local charities and staff prizes each year.
Pete was a champion for the Annual Presentation Awards Evening and personally sponsored the Progress Award, which recognises students who go the extra mile—an award that reflects Pete’s own character.
Even after his retirement, Pete maintained close ties with the school community, regularly reconnecting with his colleagues, affectionately referred to as the “old scientists,” to reminisce about their shared teaching memories.
His unwavering dedication and support to Wales High School over the last 50 years will be remembered fondly and deeply missed.

Liz Sternberg
Liz Sternberg
Liz Sternberg began her career at Wales High School in the 1990s as a RE and English Teacher. Though she later left to pursue other ventures her passion for the school remained.
Liz found it hard to fully retire and continued to support the school in various roles, including serving as a cover supervisor across all subjects and, more recently, as Lead Exam Invigilator.
Liz had a deep appreciation for the students, often praising their kindness and expressing how much she enjoyed being part of the school environment. She was a good friend to many staff members and truly loved being involved in school life.
In the summer of 2024, Liz officially retired as one of our eldest and longest-serving members of staff. She was an inspiration, a fighter, and a passionate colleague whose presence enriched the lives of those around her.
Liz will be remembered as a valued member of the Wales High School community and will be greatly missed.
We extend our deepest condolences to Pete and Liz’s family and friends at this difficult time.
