Modern Foreign Languages at Key Stage 3
When students arrive at Wales in Y7 they are required to study one Modern Foreign Language. At Wales, we teach French and Spanish and both subjects enjoy equal status within the school. It is currently not possible to study both languages or to change languages at a later date. We recognise that students do not all have the same previous language learning experience, and we always strive to allocate students to their preferred language within the constraints of the timetable.
Students are taught in mixed ability classes throughout Key Stage 3 to maintain continuity of study and students cover the same topics, grammar, and fundamental vocabulary across both languages. Our aim at Key Stage 3 is to give students a solid foundation of knowledge with which to progress through Key Stage 4 and beyond.
