Modern Foreign Languages – KS3

Modern Foreign Languages at Key Stage 3

By the end of Key Stage 3, a typical MFL student at Wales will understand the main points and key details of written and spoken texts in the target language on the themes of family, school, interests, travel, food and health. Students will be able to write paragraphs in the target language of 40-90 words using a range of vocabulary and structures.  They will be able to interact effectively with secure pronunciation in short exchanges about their topics of study.  They will have a secure understanding of target language syntax and key grammatical structures such as tenses and key regular and irregular verb forms.  Students will have an awareness of key cultural differences between our local area and countries where the target language is spoken, such as; key celebrations, typical foods, customs and also investigate barriers to cultural understanding and appreciation.
