Tuesday 29 September marked an important milestone in the construction of the new Wales High School building, as representatives from the Department for Education (DfE), BAM, Arcadis and Wales High School gathered to celebrate the progress of the Future Wales project.

The steel signing ceremony marked the start of the structural framework and was an opportunity to celebrate the progress of the construction project. It also recognised the collaboration between the school, engineers, architects and contractors who have worked together to bring the project to this stage, before construction moves into its next phase.

Students, staff and governors representing Wales High School each signed the steel beam with a message to mark the occasion.
Sixth Form students Claudia B and James D signed the beam on behalf of the student body.

Their message read:
“We hope this building flourishes and grows like the children who are nurtured inside it. Laying the foundation for a future Wales, where generations of children can stand strong with a framework of teachers, who, like steel, keep them supported throughout their lives.”
The signed beam will become a permanent part of the new school building, creating a lasting record of this important moment in the Future Wales project. Its final location will be revealed once the new building is complete.

Headteacher, Miss Lisa McCall, said:
“Today marked an exciting moment for Wales High School as we see Future Wales starting to take shape. This ceremony reminds us once again of the amazing opportunity the future building will bring, not just to our students but to our whole school community.
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point. There has been a lot of work behind the scenes, and it’s fantastic to now see that work becoming a reality”.
