Science at Key Stage 4
Most students at Wales High School follow GCSE Combined Science Trilogy which will lead to 2 GCSE qualifications. Our students will be taught by 3 staff specialising in Chemistry, Physics and Biology, building on concepts met during Key Stage 3. The exam board is AQA and students study the units listed on the highways below from Year 9 to Year 11, having started Year 9 with an introduction to GCSE course designed to enhance knowledge and boost confidence in all aspects of practical and key skills. Students will complete 21 required practical tasks as part of the GCSE course; these practical skills will be assessed during their GCSE papers.
Some students choose to take Separate Science which leads to a separate qualification in Biology, Chemistry and Physics (three GCSEs). Students will choose this option in Year 10 and will have 8 hours of science per week in contrast to 6 hours for Combined Science Trilogy. Science is a popular subject with many students opting to continue their studies at KS5.
