Pioneering Innovator and Lifelong Supporter: Sheila Pantry’s Impact on Wales High School
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sheila Pantry, our long-standing friend and advocate of the school, on 1st October, 2025.
Sheila was among the pioneering women of the 1950s who helped develop groundbreaking information-sharing technologies within the steel industry, work that would later play a role in the creation of CD-ROMs.
Her connection to Wales High School began when she offered work experience opportunities to our students. Recognising the library’s urgent need for support, Sheila generously donated funds to restore and enhance the space, ensuring future generations could benefit from it.
Sheila also gave her time generously to the school. She supported Professional Interview Evenings, interviewing countless Sixth Form students and helping to prepare them for life beyond school. In addition, she kindly sponsored The Community Award at our annual Presentation Evening for many years, a special recognition given to students who make a positive contribution to the wider community. (We are proud to continue this award in her memory.)
Over the years, Sheila remained a devoted supporter of the school and an active member of the wider community. Her passion for education and innovation inspired many.
Miss Lisa McCall, Headteacher, said: “Sheila was a truly remarkable person whose warmth, generosity, and unwavering support made a lasting impact on our school community. She will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. On behalf of the school, we have sent our heartfelt condolences to her family”.
We are profoundly grateful for Sheila’s enduring support and proud to remember her as a cherished friend of Wales High School.
