Year 11 Information

Welcome to Year 11, the most important year of any student’s education so far.  To help families and students we have created the Year 11 page to include all key information you will need throughout Year 11.  Please click on the road map tab below to see key dates for this year.

We will regularly update our webpage with topic lists for each subject, key revision sessions and exam timetables.  There will also be guidance and ideas on how families can support students at home with revision.

We are pleased to launch our Year 11 Boost Your Grade sessions, designed to provide targeted support for students in preparation for their upcoming GCSE examinations.

These sessions will run from 3.00pm to 4.00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and cover a broad range of subjects. Each session is led by specialist teachers and aims to reinforce key knowledge, develop exam techniques, and increase confidence as students approach their final exams.

While all Year 11 students are encouraged to attend the sessions that support their subject choices, some students will be specifically targeted and expected to attend sessions where we have identified that additional support will be most beneficial. If your child is identified for targeted intervention, you will receive further communication outlining the subjects and sessions they are expected to attend.

All Year 11 students have been reminded that there are clear standards and procedures during the examination processes which are consistent across the country for exams. Mobile phones and any other electronic devices are strictly forbidden in any examination and it is essential that these are not brought into the exam hall. It is now also an additional measure that watches of any kind are not to be worn in the exam hall. If a student is found to have breached these regulations it could affect the outcome of not only that particular exam paper, but also any exam papers taken in other subjects. All students will be expected to have the correct equipment for each exam which includes a black ballpoint pen, pencil, a ruler, mathematical equipment (compass and protractor) and a scientific calculator. In most cases, examinations will be conducted in the sports hall under the supervision of subject specific staff. It is important they become used to the environment and systems involved.

We regularly keep in contact with families by sending letters home.  If you would like to read any letters, click on the button below:

At Wales High School we regularly remind students to look after their wellbeing, especially during times of stress, such as exams.  Following on from the NHS 5 ways to wellbeing, we encourage students to reflect on their wellbeing, eat healthily, drink plenty of water, get moving, get enough sleep and take advantage of local and national resources such:

This is a website students can access for free which provides support for young peoples’ mental health.

This is an app that students can download and use to access text or telephone counselling. We also have With me in Mind practitioners that come into Wales High School for students that need more support. Please contact the Year 11 team if you have concerns and would like to consider a referral.

We have several counsellors that work on school site, supporting our students. They are able to provide more support as well as advice on referrals to CAMHS. Please contact the Year 11 team if you have concerns and would like to consider a referral.
