Wales High School Shortlisted for the Tesco Stronger Starts Scheme

Wales High School is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted for the Tesco Stronger Starts scheme, an initiative that offers grants to support local community projects.

The scheme provides grants of up to £1,500 with the amount rewarded determined by the most community votes.

  • First Place: £1,500
  • Second Place: £1,000
  • Third Place: £500

The school’s Healthy Fruit and Snacks for Children project aims to provide free fruit and healthy snacks for students who are on Free School Meals or receiving Pupil Premium. These nutritious snacks will be available at the school’s Welcome Entrance.

Richard Harrison, Deputy Headteacher at Wales High School said: “Providing free healthy snacks and fruit to the children in our school will not only give them the right start to the day, but also help them understand the importance of eating healthily.”

Lisa McCall, Headteacher at Wales High School said: With 30% of our students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and eligible for Pupil Premium, ensuring they have access to a nutritious breakfast is crucial. A healthy start to the day directly impacts their well-being, focus, and engagement in learning. Anything we can do to enable this will make a positive difference to their education, health and future success”.
