Wales High School Awarded £1,000 Tesco Grant Thanks to Community Support

Wales High School is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £1,000 through the Tesco Stronger Starts scheme, thanks to the support of the local community.

The school’s Healthy Fruit and Snacks for Children project was shortlisted as one of the local community initiatives eligible for funding through Tesco’s in-store blue token voting system. Grants of up to £1,500 were available, with the final amounts determined by the number of community votes received.

Securing second place, Wales High School received a £1,000 grant, which will be used to provide free fruit and healthy snacks for students. These nutritious snacks will be made available at the school’s Welcome Entrance, supporting students with a healthy start to their school day.

Richard Harrison, Deputy Headteacher at Wales High School, commented:

“Providing free healthy snacks and fruit to the children in our school will not only give them the right start to the day, but also help them understand the importance of eating healthily.”

Lisa McCall, Headteacher at Wales High School, added:

“With 30% of our students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and eligible for Pupil Premium, ensuring they have access to a nutritious breakfast is crucial. A healthy start to the day directly impacts their well-being, focus, and engagement in learning. Anything we can do to enable this will make a positive difference to their education, health and future success.”

The school extends its sincere thanks to the entire community for their support in voting and making this project a reality.
