Travel and tourism

The travel and tourism industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the UK. The value of tourism to the UK economy is approximately £209 billion.

The qualification provides the knowledge, understanding and skills that will prepare you for a career in the Travel and Tourism industry.

There are many career opportunities in the tourist and travel sectors such as Hotel management, Travel agents and Cabin crew. Students can also move on to higher education to study degree courses for example:

BA (Hons) in Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism (includes Travel Management;
Event Management; Tourism Management; Transport Studies; Air, Land and Sea travel;
Hospitality Management; Recreation and Leisure Studies; Spa, Salon or Sport Management)
BA International Hospitality and Tourism Management
BSc Business with Tourism Management
BA (Hons) in Marketing
BA (Hons) in International Tourism Management
Bsc (Hons) in Geography and Environmental Management.

Learners should always check the entry requirements for degree programmes

Students will have the opportunity to visit key tourist areas as part of their studies, both in the UK, and abroad.

A four day educational visit to Disneyland Paris ensures students experience the wider application of their studies beyond the classroom

Five GCSEs grade 9-4 however we require English and Mathematics.

Students will study four mandatory units, covering the following content areas:

Unit 1 – The world of travel and tourism – this will develop the skills you need to examine, interpret and analyse a variety of statistics that measure the importance of tourism to the UK

Unit 2 – Global destinations – you will investigate the features, appeal and importance of different global destinations

Unit 3 – Principles of marketing in travel and tourism – this will help you to develop a successful marketing plan for use by travel and tourism organisations to attract and engage with customers using research data

Unit 9 – Visitor attractions – Learners develop analytical skills as they investigate the nature and role of both built and natural

visitor attractions, their commercial success, appeal, response to diverse visitor needs and the

importance of delivering a memorable visitor experience
