Wales High School Appoints Two New Deputy Headteachers
We are delighted to announce that Wales High School has appointed two new Deputy Headteachers.
Following a rigorous recruitment process with a strong field of both internal and external candidates, the decision was made to appoint Mr Richard Harrison and Mr Michael Payton-Greene.Meet the Team
Mr Richard Harrison
Mr Harrison began his career at Wales High School in 2008 as a Teacher of History and was appointed as a Head of Year in 2012, gaining a wealth of pastoral experience before being appointed as a Senior Teacher with responsibility as the Head of Lower School in 2015.
Mr Harrison was then appointed to the Senior Leadership Team at Wales in 2021 as an Assistant Headteacher and currently has responsibility for Behaviour, Attendance, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
Mr Harrison, said: “I am incredibly proud to work at Wales High School and it is an honour to have been appointed Deputy Headteacher. As a former pupil and member of the local community, I am excited to play a more significant role in the plans to create a new school for future generations, whilst also further embedding the ‘The Wales Way’ ethos and traditional values, that makes Wales High School such a popular and vibrant place to be.”
Mr Michael Payton-Greene
Mr Payton-Greene, began his career at Wales High School in 2009, starting as an NQT and then Head of English. He left Wales High School in 2017 to become an Assistant Headteacher at Brookfield Community School, before returning to Wales High School in 2019.
Since returning to the school he has covered various roles, including leading Teaching and Learning, taking a secondment to the Rotherham School Improvement Service, supporting schools across the Local Authority, and teaching on a PGCE course at the University of Sheffield.
Mr Payton-Greene, said: “I am looking forward to an exciting time for Wales High School and our wider community as we plan for our new school building. Our new building gives us a great opportunity to adapt our approach to teaching, learning and our curriculum, and to provide an outstanding offer for our students and prepare them for their futures”.
In commenting on the new appointments, Miss McCall, Headteacher, said: “I am delighted with the new appointments, and I am confident that the Senior Leadership Team is in a strong position and will continue to drive the school priorities forward in to the future. I know both Mr Harrison and Mr Payton-Greene will be a great success in their new position”.
