The Library is Going Places!

The power of reading in transforming lives is something Wales High School knows all about. Unfortunately, on 30 November, the library and other rooms above and below it were damaged by water from a burst pipe at the top of the Tower Block. The water damaged around 300 books which had to be thrown away, including many of our students’ favourite books, leaving huge gaps in our library shelves.

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.

I’m sorry to say so
but, sadly, it’s true
that Bang-ups
and Hang-ups
can happen to you.
You can get all hung up
in a prickle-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on.
You’ll be left in a Lurch.

Just a week later, the school hosted its annual Presentation Evening. Alumni and former Head Girl, Jacquie Williams gave an inspiring speech full of advice for our students. Her passion for reading was abundant and was inspired by the Dr Seuss classic, ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’

Areas of damage caused by the burst water pipe.

When Jacquie visited the school the next day with her school friends from 42 years ago, she was saddened to see the library in such a sorry state. To help the library recover its depleted stock, Jackie has made an incredible donation of £3000 to buy new books so that the students of Wales High can continue to enjoy their favourite stories for years to come. We are extremely grateful for Jacquie’s magnificent generosity!

With banner flip-flapping,
once more you’ll ride high!
Ready for anything under the sky.

@WHS Library The first installment of our new book order has arrived!! We are beyond grateful to @Jacq_Williams for donating these to our school library!
