Tell us about where you are working/studying now and about your role/university course:
I work for Derbyshire Building Control Partnership as a Trainee Building Control Surveyor. I am currently working towards a level 4 qualification with the Chartered Institute of Building and LABC, I will then be doing a level 5 next year and a degree after that with the University of Wolverhampton. My role includes plan checking which is ensuring architectural drawings meet satisfaction in terms of building regulations which cover fire safety, accessibility and much more. Then I also do site inspections where I have a mentor who takes me on site with them to inspect various stages of building work from steel beams to roof structures amongst many other things, both on commercial and domestic sites. When qualified I will be expected to do site inspections independently.
