This is a brand-new course to our Sixth-form and we are really excited to be able to offer this to our students. This is a linear A-Level and it is a two-year course. Studying Law gives students an understanding of the role of Law in today’s society and raises their awareness of the rights and responsibilities of individuals.
By learning about legal rules and how and why they apply to real life, students also develop their analytical ability, decision making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. All these skills are highly sought after by higher education and employers.
Law is relevant to a wide range of careers including roles in the legal profession, including solicitor, barrister, legal executive, as well as teaching, the police, the probation service. Clearly, any career which involves working with and understanding people.
We have excellent links with local law firms who are willing to give work experience to our students, with the potential for employment or a degree apprenticeship. Revision and study skills support sessions are available for all students. You will have the opportunity to attend revision conferences with principle examiners.
5 GCSEs at 9 – 5 including English.

• Paper 2: The nature of law and the English Legal System (25 marks out of 100) Tort (75 marks out of 100) (2 hour written exam, 33% of A-Level)
• Paper 3: Law of contract (75 marks out of 100) The nature of law and the English Legal System (25 marks out of 100) Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods (compulsory unit) (80 marks, 2 hour written exam, 33.3% of A-Level)
The Examination Board for this course is AQA.
A-Level Law is a two-year linear course with exams sat at the end of Year 13. Law is purely exam based. There are no coursework components. You do not need to have studied Law at GCSE to be successful in Law at A-Level.
