This course is offered as a one or two year qualification. This CTech course is designed for students who are interested in the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information. As a vocational course the subject content is geared towards the use of IT in business. The course will be assessed using a mixture of written exams and coursework produced in class. As a department we currently follow the OCR Cambridge Technical specification. You will achieve the emerging digital practitioner pathway.
This course would be of benefit to anyone who is considering a career in IT in the future. The course content would also help anyone looking to pursue further study in Business, social media or any other emerging technology field.
The Examination Board for this course is OCR. This vocational course leads to the equivalent of a full A-Level after two years.
5 GCSEs at 9 – 4 including Grade 4 English. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will be considered on an individual basis.
• Unit 1: Fundamentals of ICT
You will learn how the components and software work and their individual purposes. You will study real systems and the hardware as well as the employability and communication skills used in an IT environment. This will be assessed by an exam in Year 12.
• Unit 2: Global Information
This is a written exam based on pre-release material provided by the exam board. You will learn how organisations use data both internally and externally. You will also learn about the importance of good management of data and information.
• Unit 5: Virtual and Augmented Reality
You will learn about the different types of computer affected reality. You will look at both technologies and create and develop a augmented reality product. This will be assessed by evidence you present as coursework.
• Unit 12: Mobile Technology
You will investigate the different mobile technologies, as well as the ethics involved. You will suggest and justify a suitable mobile technology in answer to a scenario which you will be given, this will be presented as coursework.
• Unit 13: Using Social Media in Business
You will explore how businesses use social media to promote their products and services. You will create social media pages for a given business. You will investigate how data is used by social media and how it can be used to deliver marketing messages. You will produce written evidence for this unit.
