A First for the School!

Congratulations to the year 7 football team who at the end of a long season have been crowned South Yorkshire Champions. On the road to the final – they have beaten teams from Rotherham and Sheffield, scoring over forty goals and conceding only 5.

The final was played on the hottest day of the year at Balby Carr Sports College in Doncaster. The pitch was one the largest the team have had to play on this season but the boys were ready for the task. The opponents had travelled down from Barnsley – Horizon School and looked confident but they did not bank on meeting the force that is Wales Year 7 Football Team.

The game started in a frenzy and in under five minutes the goal machine that is Sam Eccles opened the scoring. The team defended well and went into half time 1-0. The start of the second half was difficult and the team were under pressure – Horizon scored to make it 1-1. Then the team dug deep and got back into their stride. A weaving run into the box by saw the Wales player axed down and penalty given. Regan Millard clutching the ball placed it on the spot and delivered a perfect penalty into the top corner.

The game then became the Wales Final and the day was rounded off with a wonder Strike from Finlay MaCintyre who unleashed a twenty yard rocket of a shot into the top corner.
