World Studies

Curriculum, vision and aims.

World Studies is an exciting, bespoke KS3 curriculum based in learning support.

At Wales High School we recognise that some students come to us needing extra support in literacy. Literacy underpins access to learning, knowledge and understanding the world around us.  We want our students to be confident, positive and independent in their studies.  Extra support is offered with a bespoke World Studies curriculum. The primary focus is on improving literacy skills and confidence in learning, to enable students to be confident learners across school.

Students are selected to study World Studies as they join us In Y7. It is delivered by experienced, specialist staff. We work closely with the English, Humanities and Maths departments to ensure the curriculum is rigorous and challenging.  We pride ourselves on the knowledge and skills our students gain.

At the core of our vision is the ability to build relationships with our students.  Students work in small groups which allow them to feel confident and comfortable in their studies.  Teachers are able to understand and adapt the curriculum to the specific needs of the students.  This bespoke approach enables students to gain confidence in their abilities and improve their literacy skills which impacts positively across all subjects.
