On 20th May four year nine girls, were presented with a joint prize of £500 by Dr Penny Simons, Senior Lecturer in French from University of Sheffield.

The girls - Jessica, Lauren, Emma & Jessica - successfully won first prize in the group category within a competition organised by ‘Routes into Languages’.

This is a consortium of universities working together with schools and colleges, to enthuse and encourage people to study languages.

Their challenge was to produce some artwork; a poem or a play on the theme of cultural diversity in the community.  The girls produced some beautiful artwork on this theme as well as eleven poems in different languages. The poems were translated into English, for those who do not speak the language. The impressive artwork can be viewed in our French department.
