Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3 Curriculum

During Key Stage 3 all students follow the full National Curriculum in each subject.  In Year 9, students continue to study a broad and balanced curriculum including: Mathematics, English (Language and Literature) and Science, alongside; History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), Physical Education (PE), Religious Education (RE), Computer Science and Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education.  Students are actively encouraged to extend the depth of their knowledge in 2 further national curriculum areas, including the Arts and Technology.

Curriculum Overview

In Year 7 students will study: English (4 hours), Mathematics (4 hours), Science (3 hours), Geography (2 hours), History (2 hours), Modern Foreign Languages (2 hours) Physics Education (2 hours), Art (1 hour), Computing (1 hour), Design and Technology (1 hour), Music (1 hour), Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education (1 hour), Reading (1 hour) and Religious Education (1 hour).

World Studies

We also offer additional support to some students through World Studies, which focuses on improving literacy skills and confidence in learning.  Students are selected for World Studies as they join us in Year 7.

In Year 8 students will study: English (4 hours), Mathematics (4 hours), Science (3 hours), Geography (2 hours), History (2 hours), Modern Foreign Languages (2 hours) Physical Education (2 hours), Art (1 hour), Computing (1 hour), Design and Technology (1 hour), Music (1 hour), Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education (1 hour), Reading (1 hour) and Religious Education (1 hour).

In Year 9 students will study: English (4 hours), Mathematics (4 hours), Science (3 hours), Geography (2 hours), History (2 hours), Modern Foreign Languages (2 hours) Physical Education (2 hours), Computing (1 hour), Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education (1 hour) and Religious Education (1 hour). Students will then study 2 further subjects (each subject for 2 hours).  Students will choose from: Art and Photography, Music, Design and Technology, Drama and Dance.
