Last week, the school welcomed children’s author, Tom Palmer, to the school. Tom has written and published many books linked to the theme of sport, including football and rugby books. A group of Year 7 students are currently attending sessions based on one of Tom’s books entitled ‘Over the Line’.
These students have been reading the book as well as looking at what it would have been like to be a professional footballer during the First World War. They have attended a variety of different sessions including building trenches, making propaganda posters and researching World War One poets and writers.
Tom spent his time with a range of students in the school. He joined our lunchtime Authors’ Club and gave the students here some valuable advice about the world of publishing and writing. Our keen Y7 students (Jak, Charlie and Flynn) took time preparing questions to interview Tom to find out a little bit more about what it is like to be a successful published author.
The school would like to thank Tom for his enthusiasm and passion for reading and writing and a big well done to all students involved. Enjoy this interview with Tom. Happy reading!
