Consultation on Expansion of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Resourced Provision at Wales High School
From Friday 10 February 2023 through to Friday 10 March 2023, Wales High School is holding a formal consultation with relevant stakeholders and the community to explore the possible expansion of the existing ASD Resourced Provision.
The increase in the demographic locally, based upon the numbers of students already in neighbouring schools and projected data provided by DfE and Rotherham MBC, shows that in future years the school may have to review its entrance criteria or reject a significant number of EHCP (Educational Health & Care Plan) applicants, unless it is able to expand the current delivery to create additional places for students in the Resourced Provision.
The basis for the consultation is a proposal to expand Wales High School ASD Resourced Provision from 25 places to add a further 25 places over the next 5 years, increasing the total capacity from 25 to 50. The increase in capacity would require a newly built extension in line with the planned work agreed under the Schools Rebuilding Programme, creating additional classrooms, outdoor space and other associated facilities such as meeting areas and toilets. This extension would be dependent on planning permission and funding through the Phase 4 Sufficiency and Safety Valve Funding. It is not anticipated that we will need to make changes to our current admissions policy at this time.
This consultation seeks to:
- Understand what stakeholders feel about the proposal to expand the existing ASD resource.

The funding bid is reviewed to ensure this proposal remains financially viable.
Once both DfE approval and capital funding is secured, the proposed changes will be implemented.
