Business
Curriculum, vision and aims.
When students join the Business Department in Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, it is our intention that they will not only fulfil their academic potential, but that they will be ready for the next stage of their education or the world of work.
Subjects studied within the business department offer students the chance to acquire a great range of enterprise skills, and life skills, in addition to the subject knowledge they are able to take away with them
The Business Department, at Wales High School, encompasses a wide range of courses and related study programmes
Business is woven into everyday life, and our students will continue to use skills acquired with us, long after they leave for the next stages of their development.
With over 120 Universities offering undergraduate programmes in Business Management alone, it is easy to see why Business related course are offered in greater numbers than any other subject area. In a survey taken prior to the outbreak of Covid, findings suggested more undergraduates studied on Business programmes than on Maths, Computer Science, Engineering and Technology Combined. In fact as the world around us changes, it appears the subject becomes more and more popular, with undergraduate courses increasing by 15% in 2020-21.
But what of those student for whom University life is not the best option? There are many Business related apprenticeships available today, with companies as diverse as Nestle and Network Rail, and the BBC, Boots and Barclays Bank all offering Business related Apprenticeships.
We believe that our students are entitled to the best possible support that we can offer and the department is always open for students to find the help and support they need before, during and after school, as well as during lesson time.
We have a small, but experience team of 6 members of staff and students can seek out help and support from teachers with specialist knowledge in Business, Economics and Accountancy. The department also has over 50 desk top computers to facilitate research and the opportunity to complete coursework tasks.
Above everything else, we aim to create a culture where students can enjoy their periods of study and learn, not only the information which will help them to succeed in exams, but also valuable skills which will serve them well in future years.
We look forward to working with all students at Wales who choose to study on Business related courses in the coming years.
