The PE Department has taken on a role within school in a number of key areas and its work in developing pupil leaders is an excellent example of the work it has done across the school. Since 2005 the school have looked to increase pupil responsibility by training leaders. Pupils had long experienced leadership opportunities in PE and Sport and the department felt these opportunities could benefit pupils in all key stages.

In key stage 3 the pupils are engaged in the school’s ‘Leadership Star’ program which leads into the Young leader Award. In Key stage 4 pupils are given the opportunity to build on previous experiences and gain qualification on the level 1 Leader award.

In the sixth form students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills through the Level 2 Leadership award which is delivered in set timetable lessons.

All of the leaders are engaged in a range of activities including attending school functions, working with pupils in the Primary schools, and developing school promotional material.
